Are college coaches out of bounds?

If you watched SportsCenter this week, you probably heard Lamar head basketball head coach Pat Knight blow up about his team, specifically complaining about his seniors.

Coming off a loss to Stephen F. Austin, coach Knight infuriated by his teams play, interrupted guard Mike James and told him to get off the stage during the postgame conference.

Knight then went on to blow up about his seniors, saying they didn’t have a heart and essentially saying his team has no heart and that he blames the last three years for that mindset.

“These guys are stealing money by being on scholarship with their approach to things,” he said

While Knight is not the first of coaches to do this, I do think he was right in doing so. His job is to motivate his team, and in their next game James stepped up and scored 30 points against Sam Houston State as the Cardinals cruised to an easy victory, 72-48.

Coach Knight did what he had to in order to get his team to listen to him. And while some may disagree with his tactics, nobody can say it isn’t working.

What do you think of his rant though? Was he out of bounds for saying some of the things that he did?
